4/16/2008 - Sad news comes from Chris Roper (THS 73) today...
Peggy Roper Waskom, 55, a woman admired and loved by everyone she met, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 11:30am. Peggy succumbed to a long, courageous battle after 5 weeks in intensive care at Emory University and Crawford Long Hospital.
Peggy was the Executive Vice President of First Communities Management, where she was employed for 29 years. Peggy was just the second female Atlanta Apartment Association President in 2005. She was slated to be the Georgia Apartment Association President in 2009. Peggy had achieved designations in Certified Property Management with IREM, a Georgia Real Estate License, a Georgia Broker’s License as well as Certified Apartment Property Supervisor. In addition to Peggy’s many professional accomplishments, she was an avid contributor to charities such as the Atlanta Food Bank and the Breast Cancer Society.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 9 years, Richard Waskom and her son DJ Waskom of Cumming, GA; her daughter Brandi and Rusty Boudoin of Lawrenceville, GA; parents Roy and Frances Roper of Conyers, GA; brother Gerrick and Ann Roper, Covington, GA; brother Chris and Debbie Roper, Loganville, GA; grandmother Josephine Nicholson, Stockbridge, GA; nieces Robyn Roper, Covington, GA and Taylor Hicks, Loganville, GA; nephews Jody and Suzanne Roper, Woodstock, GA, Josh and Kim Roper, Woodstock, GA and Jared Roper, Loganville, GA. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The viewing will be held on Thursday at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home located at 376 Fairview Road Stockbridge, GA. 30281. Visitation is from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral services will be held at Eastside Baptist Church located at 4010 Hwy 138 SW Stockbridge, GA 30218 on Friday morning at 11am. The gravesite services will be held immediately following along with a gathering of friends and relatives afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Peggy’s honor to the American Diabetes Association and/or the American Cancer Society.
She was the glue that brought us all together. She would be humbled by your love. She will be missed.
